Adapting to COVID-19
With the world racing to solve the COVID-19 crisis, the families of BYEP participants are getting hit the hardest by the fallout: joblessness, food insecurity, and a host of mental health issues they’ll be stuck dealing with alone. Many of our participants will find themselves isolated in challenging environments, intensifying the trauma inflicted on our community by COVID-19.
BYEP hasn’t skipped a beat. We remain committed to serving our participants through this turmoil. We’ve adapted our programs to offer online group workshops and adventures, building out a new curriculum designed to challenge our participants to grow and stay resilient, even during isolation. We’re reaching out to the family’s of our participants, connecting them with resources to help them through struggles like sudden loss of employment and make sure their families fundamental needs are met.
Connection is the core of Big Sky Youth Empowerment, which is why BYEP’s new virtual programs are designed to keep our participants positive and focused on their personal growth in the face of this pandemic. Built around personal challenges that gain the participant’s team points upon completion, BYEP’s virtual program motivates our young people to exercise, re-connect with their friends and family, learn new skills, and above all else, retain a sense of hope for their future through this crisis.
