FAQ

Who can apply?

Teens in grade 7-12 can apply to BYEP! We ask that teens themselves apply through our website.

Who is BYEP for?

BYEP serves vulnerable teens in Gallatin Valley (Bozeman, Belgrade, Four Corners), but what makes a vulnerable teen? Every teen is vulnerable. Whether you are struggling with your mental health, bullying at school, or just feel like you could use extra support and are ready to make new friends, there are countless reasons why you’ll benefit from BYEP. BYEP is for every teen in 7th-12th grade in Gallatin Valley that feels like they would benefit from a supportive community and is stoked to get outdoors!

What is the time commitment for BYEP?

BYEP offers approximately 10 hours of programs each week. The 10 hours are divided into one weeknight workshop (Monday - Thursday, 4-7pm), and one Sunday weekend adventure. We have three seasons each year: winter, summer, and fall, that each last for 12 weeks. When teens enroll, they commit to being in our program for at least one season, though many teens stay in the program for years!

How much does BYEP cost?

We are proud to offer our programs completely free of charge to all participants! Once accepted into the program, each teen receives a scholarship that covers all of their expenses. BYEP also provides all necessary gear for ski season, such as skis, snowboards, base layers, jackets, boots, helmets, and goggles.

How long after I apply will I be accepted into the program?

The answer is, it depends! Sometimes the interview process goes quickly and we can get you in within a couple weeks. Other times we have a lot of applications to work through or your grade might be full, in which case you may end up on our waitlist. Generally speaking, you can expect to hear back from us within 7-10 days of submitting your online application.

Do I need to know how to ski or snowboard to join BYEP?

No, absolutely not! We welcome teens with all skill levels and backgrounds. We’re all on this journey together, so whether you’re already familiar with shredding on the mountain, or have never been on a hike in your life — BYEP is for you.

I am a parent, and I am interested in getting my kid enrolled in BYEP. What are the steps?

We would love to have your kid in BYEP! BYEP is voluntary and we ask that teens apply to our program themselves. Once your kid is ready, they can fill out our online application here: https://www.byep.org/apply

I am interested in pursuing an internship with BYEP! Is that something you do?

We love that you are stoked about BYEP! At this time we don’t offer any internship opportunities, but becoming a volunteer mentor may fulfill internship requirements you have through certain MSU programs. We rely heavily on volunteers to run our programs. If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer mentor or tutor, you can learn more and apply here: https://www.byep.org/volunteer
